A state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility in the heart of Koforidua, the Youth and Sports Recreational Centre is a world-class destination where young people can play, train, learn, and grow, boasting a FIFA-standard football pitch, athletics track, basketball and volleyball courts, a gym, an ICT hub, and an entrepreneurship centre. Commissioned by President Akufo-Addo in December 2023, this transformative facility stands as a proud symbol of investment in the youth and future of the Eastern Region.

Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre — Where Talent Meets Opportunity Located in the heart of Koforidua, the capital of Ghana's Eastern Region, the Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre, also known as the Koforidua Sports Stadium, stands as one of the most remarkable and transformative facilities ever built for the youth of the Eastern Region. It is a place where sporting excellence, personal development, and community empowerment come together under one roof, creating a space that is truly built for the future of Koforidua and Ghana as a whole. A Historic Facility Reborn The story of this incredible facility is one of renewal and vision. The original Koforidua Sports Stadium served the Eastern Region for over 60 years, standing as the only sports stadium in the region and serving as the home ground of Power FC, one of the area's most beloved football clubs. For decades, it was the arena where athletes trained, competed, and chased their dreams, even as its aging infrastructure struggled to keep pace with the growing needs of the community. Recognising the urgent need to modernise and expand the facility, the government embarked on an ambitious upgrade project beginning in 2018, investing 1.8 million United States dollars to completely transform the over 60 year old stadium into a state of the art, multi purpose youth resource centre fit for the 21st century. The result is a facility that not only honours the proud sporting legacy of the original stadium but elevates it beyond anything the Eastern Region has ever seen before. On 27th December 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially commissioned the newly transformed Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre in a landmark ceremony attended by distinguished guests including the Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, the CEO of the National Youth Authority Pius Enam Hadzide, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, and the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, alongside prominent personalities and politicians from across the Eastern Region. The commissioning marked a proud and historic moment not just for Koforidua, but for the entire nation, as the facility became the very first of ten such multi purpose sports stadiums to be completed and handed over for use across Ghana. A Vision for Ghana's Youth The Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre is anchored on Ghana's ten year youth development blueprint, approved by Cabinet in 2022, a bold national commitment to empowering the country's young people with the tools, spaces, and opportunities they need to thrive. President Akufo-Addo described the facility as a safe space for youth congregation and recreation, offering a diverse array of services that cater to the multifaceted opportunities presented to the youth of today. The President made clear that this is not merely a structure. It represents a commitment to creating an environment where the youth can thrive, develop essential skills, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's national development agenda. It is a facility that proves the nation's commitment to retaining homegrown talent and raising it to compete at an international level. World Class Sports Facilities At its core, the Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre is a sporting powerhouse. The centrepiece of the facility is a FIFA standard football pitch, built to the highest international specifications and capable of hosting competitive matches at the very highest level. Whether it is a local league fixture, a regional championship, or a national competition, the pitch is ready to deliver a world class footballing experience for players and fans alike. Surrounding the pitch is a nine lane athletics track, providing a dedicated and professional training and competition surface for sprinters, long distance runners, and all track and field athletes. The track is built to international standards, giving the athletes of the Eastern Region the platform they need to train seriously and compete with confidence at any level. Beyond football and athletics, the facility boasts an impressive range of court sports, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, and handball courts, ensuring that a wide variety of sporting disciplines are catered for and that every young athlete in Koforidua has a high quality venue to pursue their passion. A fully equipped gymnasium rounds off the sporting offering, providing a dedicated space for strength training, fitness, and physical conditioning for athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike. More Than a Stadium What truly sets the Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre apart from any ordinary sports facility is its commitment to the all round development of the young people it serves. Recognising that true youth empowerment goes beyond sport alone, the facility has been thoughtfully designed to address the educational, professional, and personal development needs of its community. A dedicated Guidance and Counselling Centre provides a safe and confidential space where young people can seek support, guidance, and mentorship on the challenges they face in life, helping to nurture not just athletic talent but emotional resilience and personal growth. A fully equipped ICT Hub opens the door to the digital world for the youth of Koforidua, providing access to technology, digital skills training, and the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly connected global economy. A Skills and Entrepreneurship Development Centre equips young people with practical vocational skills and business knowledge, empowering them to create their own opportunities, start their own businesses, and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of their communities. A clinic and rehabilitation centre ensures that the health and physical wellbeing of all users of the facility are properly taken care of, whether it is sports injury rehabilitation for competitive athletes or general healthcare support for members of the community. A contemporary restaurant within the facility offers a comfortable and welcoming space for visitors to dine, relax, and socialise, making the centre a destination that people want to spend time in beyond their sporting and training activities. A Legacy for the Eastern Region and Beyond The Koforidua Youth and Sports Recreational Centre holds a special place in Ghana's sporting and developmental history as the first completed facility in a nationwide programme to deliver ten such world class multi purpose sports centres across the country. Its commissioning sent a powerful signal to the youth of Ghana that their government believes in their potential and is prepared to invest in the infrastructure needed to help them realise it. For the people of Koforidua and the Eastern Region, this facility is far more than a stadium. It is a statement of ambition, a declaration that the youth of this region deserve the very best, and a promise that the Eastern Region is ready to produce champions, innovators, and leaders who will make their community, their region, and their country proud.
