About this department

The Legal Unit of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly consists of the Office of the Municipal Solicitor and the Marriage Registry. It provides legal and legislative support services to the Assembly in the conduct of its business and ensures that all activities of the Assembly are carried out within the bounds of the law.

Our objectives

The unit exists to provide sound legal advice and representation to the Assembly in all its dealings. It seeks to ensure that the rules, regulations, bye-laws, and activities of the Assembly comply with the laws of Ghana, and to protect the legal interests of the Assembly in all contractual and litigious matters.

Roles & functions

The unit assists in the drafting of rules, regulations, and bye-laws to guide the activities of the Assembly and facilitates their interpretation to enhance the conduct of Assembly business. It represents the Assembly in all legal proceedings and provides legal advice on matters relating to contracts, land disputes, and other legal concerns. The unit supports capacity building for Assembly members on matters relating to the law and registers customary and ordinance marriages through the Marriage Registry. It also undertakes daily routine legal functions and serves as the principal legal advisory body to the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director on all legal matters affecting the Assembly.
