About this department
The Agric department promotes agricultural productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods in the municipality, under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Roles & functions
1. Provide extension services and technical advice to farmers.
2. Distribute improved seeds, planting materials, and farming inputs.
3. Implement government agricultural programmes (e.g. Planting for Food and Jobs).
4. Conduct farmer training, demonstrations, and field days.
5. Promote irrigation, mechanisation, and post-harvest management.
6. Collect agricultural data and maintain district crop inventories.
Roles
1. Primary link between MOFA policies and municipal-level farmers.
2. Coordinates with NGOs and development partners on agri-projects.
3. Reports on food security and crop performance to the Assembly.
