About this department

The Statistics Unit is the municipal-level arm of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) operating within the Assembly. It is responsible for the collection, compilation, storage, analysis, and dissemination of statistical data to support evidence-based planning and decision-making across all departments of the Assembly.

Our objectives

The unit exists to ensure the availability of accurate, reliable, and timely statistical data to support development planning and budgeting within the municipality. It seeks to strengthen the coordination of data generation and management across all departments and to promote statistical literacy among staff and stakeholders of the Assembly.

Roles & functions

The unit collects, compiles, stores, and analyses data based on standardised formats developed by the Ghana Statistical Service and disseminates statistical information in accordance with GSS guidelines. It generates the data requirements of the Assembly across all departments for planning activities and provides inputs for the preparation of the Assembly's annual budget and medium-term development plan. The unit prepares and submits annual statistical reports on its operations within the municipality and compiles relevant district-level data to inform annual work programmes and annual progress reports. It also coordinates the collation of administrative data across sectors and geographical units within the municipality, supports the alignment of the Assembly's budget to SDG targets, and serves as the principal statistical advisory body to the Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit on all data and information management matters.
