Department

About this department

The Urban Roads Department of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance, and management of the urban road network and related infrastructure within the municipality. It was established under the Ministry of Roads and Highways and operates as a decentralised department of the Assembly under L.I. 1961.

Our objectives

The department exists to efficiently plan, develop, and maintain the road network within the municipality and to improve the proportion of roads in good condition. It seeks to reduce travel time, enhance traffic management and road safety, and ensure an accessible, cost-effective, and sustainable road transport system for residents and businesses across the Municipality and beyond.

Roles & functions

The department plans, designs, constructs, and maintains roads and related infrastructure within the municipal road network. It manages traffic systems, road safety measures, and pedestrian and non-motorised facilities across the municipality. The department collects data for road planning and development, supervises road contractors, and manages the budget for road projects. It advises the Assembly on road policy formulation and implementation, collaborates with other departments to progressively improve environmental conditions along roads, and coordinates with relevant institutions to reduce road accidents within the municipality.
