The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has supported selected poultry farmers with day old broiler chicks under the Government of Ghana’s Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme, an initiative aimed at promoting local poultry production and improving livelihoods.

The intervention forms part of government’s broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s poultry sector, enhance food security and create sustainable economic opportunities for farmers. The Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme is being implemented as part of the Feed Ghana agenda, with a focus on increasing domestic poultry production and reducing the country’s dependence on imported poultry products.

The distribution in the Municipality is expected to help beneficiary farmers expand their poultry operations, increase production and generate additional income for their households.

The initiative also presents an opportunity for farmers, particularly those already engaged in poultry production, to strengthen their businesses and contribute to the development of the local agricultural economy.

The beneficiary farmers expressed their appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive and the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly for the support. They pledged to take proper care of the birds and use the intervention to grow their poultry enterprises.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, urged the beneficiaries to take the programme seriously and ensure that the chicks are properly managed. He encouraged them to follow the technical advice of agricultural officers and work towards making their poultry businesses sustainable.

He further emphasised the importance of reinvesting in their businesses to enable them to expand production and create additional employment opportunities within the Municipality.

The Municipal Department of Agriculture will continue to provide technical guidance and support to beneficiaries to promote proper poultry management, disease prevention and improved productivity.

The Assembly remains committed to supporting government interventions that empower residents, promote agriculture and create sustainable livelihoods in the New Juaben South Municipality.

Through the Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme, the Assembly believes that beneficiary farmers can contribute to increased local poultry production while strengthening household incomes and supporting the broader goal of food security in Ghana.
