New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development and social protection with the distribution of essential livelihood items and support packages to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the Municipality.
The initiative, undertaken on Tuesday, forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to promote economic empowerment, reduce social and economic inequalities, and create opportunities for vulnerable members of the community to achieve greater independence.
The distribution was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, who underscored the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities are empowered to participate meaningfully in the socio-economic development of the Municipality.
The support packages are intended to provide beneficiaries with practical assistance to strengthen their livelihoods, improve household incomes, and enhance their capacity to become economically self-reliant.
Addressing the gathering, the MCE emphasized the importance of building a municipality where development opportunities are accessible to all, irrespective of physical ability or socio-economic circumstances.
He noted that supporting Persons with Disabilities goes beyond the provision of material assistance, stressing the need to create an enabling environment where every resident can develop their potential, contribute to the local economy, and live with dignity.
“Inclusive development means ensuring that every member of our community has an opportunity to participate, prosper and contribute to the development of our Municipality.”
The intervention reflects the Assembly’s recognition that Persons with Disabilities are important stakeholders and active contributors to community development. By providing targeted livelihood support, the Assembly seeks to complement national social protection initiatives while addressing some of the economic barriers faced by PWDs.
The programme also highlights the importance of collaboration between the Municipal Assembly, community leaders, stakeholders, disability groups and other development partners in advancing social inclusion.
