The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly (NJSMA) has commissioned the newly redeveloped Zongo Market in Koforidua, marking a significant milestone in the Assembly's efforts to improve market infrastructure and promote local economic development.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, brought together government officials, traditional authorities, market leaders, traders, and members of the public to celebrate the completion of the modern market facility.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, joined the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, to officially commission the facility. Also present were members of the New Juaben Traditional Council, the Eastern Regional Commander, market women, traders, and other distinguished guests.

Addressing participants at the ceremony, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye described the redeveloped market as a symbol of collaboration and the Assembly's commitment to creating an enabling environment for commerce and community development.

"This market is a testament to what we can achieve when we build together—for the traders, for their families, and for the growth of our municipality," the Municipal Chief Executive stated.

The newly redeveloped Zongo Market is expected to provide a safer, cleaner, and more organized trading environment for hundreds of market women and traders. The improved facility is designed to enhance commercial activities, improve sanitation, promote public safety, and contribute to increased economic productivity within the municipality.

The Assembly recognizes the vital role markets play in supporting livelihoods and local economic growth. Investments in modern market infrastructure remain a key priority in improving service delivery, stimulating entrepreneurship, and enhancing the welfare of residents.

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly expresses its appreciation to all stakeholders whose contributions made the redevelopment of the Zongo Market possible. The Assembly remains committed to implementing initiatives that improve public infrastructure, strengthen local economic development, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
