About NJSMA
Our Mandate
The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly (NJSMA) was created by Legislative Instrument 2301 in 2017 when the northern portion of the former New Juaben Municipal Assembly was carved out to form the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly.
As one of the thirty-three (33) Assemblies in the Eastern Region, NJSMA covers a land area of 60 square kilometers and is the highest administrative and political authority in the municipality, exercising deliberative, legislative and executive functions as mandated by Section 12 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
Core Functions
- Exercise political and administrative authority in the Municipality
- Promote local economic development and provide guidance to other administrative authorities
- Formulate and execute plans, programmes and strategies for effective resource mobilisation
- Promote and support productive activity and social development
- Initiate programmes for the development of basic infrastructure
- Be responsible for human settlement development and environmental management
- Maintain security and public safety in co-operation with national security agencies
